Why Proper Ventilation Is Important For Your Roof

Having a properly ventilated roof is critical to extending its life. Failure to properly ventilate your roof can result in roof damage, structural damage, and very high energy costs.

Most notably, poor roof ventilation will result in high energy bills. Everyone knows how hot their attic can get during the summer months. Roof ventilation is installed to help remove this hot air. As the hot air is removed, the attic stays cooler and your air-conditioning system will not have to work as hard, saving you money.

Poor roof ventilation can result in ice dams in the winter. When warm air collects in your attic, it creates a warmer roof, which melts snow or ice that lands on your roof. As this precipitation melts, it runs down your roof and can refreeze at the bottom, which prevents your roof from draining. This can lead to water and roof damage and can cost you a lot of money.
