Climbing Up A Roof the Right Way

Climbing up your roof can certainly be a dangerous activity. However, if you take proper safety precautions, you will be able to access your roof in a safe way to make repairs, to examine your roof, or to work on a project.

First, take a rope and throw it over your roof and attach to an anchor on the other side. It is wise to wear a safety harness, so then attach the rope to your harness. Make sure not to pull on the rope to climb the roof. This is there as a safety precaution in case you slip.

Walk slowly on the roof and be careful to maintain your balance. Do not climb on your roof if it has been raining or snowing since wet conditions can cause you to slip much more easily.

Wear appropriate footwear when you access your roof. Tennis shoes are a solid option and will provide some grip and help you keep your balance.

Hire a professional if you have a steep roof or the roof has significant damage. Additionally, do not hesitate to contact a professional if you simply feel unsafe after following these steps.
