Roofing Your House Yourself: Is it Worth the Risk?

Purchasing a new roof requires a financial commitment, time commitment, and emotional commitment. You may be tempted with the thought of trying to install the roof yourself to lessen the financial burden, but this begs the question: should you?

Roofing is a dangerous job and requires skill to easily navigate the roof. If you don’t like heights or if you aren’t comfortable just standing on your roof, you should definitely hire a professional. Additionally, while standing on the ground, test yourself to see how well you move around while hauling bundles of shingles. If you struggle with this on the ground, you most certainly will struggle with this on a roof and it would be quite dangerous to even try.

If you do not have a significant amount of roofing experience, roofing on your own could end up costing you more than you would have originally paid to have the job done by a hired professional. Even if you do feel comfortable installing your own roof, you run the risk of installing it incorrectly. It may be tempting to install it yourself thinking you can save money but, most likely, it is not a great idea.
