Why Is My Roof Leaking?
A leaking roof is a major hassle that can pain homeowners. Leaks can originate in a variety of ways and they require a variety of solutions.
If you have a leaky roof or would like to be prepared when one strikes, here are some things to think about.
One major cause of roof leaks is broken shingles. Your shingles protect your roof from the elements and keep the inside of your home safe and dry. When your shingles break, the roof is exposed and is susceptible to leaks.
Another cause of roof leaks is faulty skylight installation. This typically happens due to improper measurement and fitting of the skylight, leaving space for water to leak through. Another cause can be due to decayed insulation around the skylight.
Clogged gutters may not seem like they would be the culprit, but they certainly are capable. When your gutters are clogged, water will pool up and prevent proper roof drainage from occurring. This means water will sit on your roof, creating a larger opportunity for water to seep through cracks or damaged spots on your roof.
One other cause of roof leaks is damaged or cracked flashing. Flashing seals corners along transitions in the roof. When damaged, water can very easily get under the shingles and seep through the roof.
