Choosing the Right Shingle Color
Asphalt shingle roofs present a wide variety of options for homeowners.
They can choose from regular asphalt shingles, fiberglass asphalt shingles, different patterned shingles, and endless color possibilities as well. With so many choices, how should a homeowner go about choosing the right shingle color?
One of the most important things a homeowner can do when choosing a shingle color is to look at the homes in the surrounding area. If every home in the neighborhood has a dark gray roof, it would probably not be a wise idea to choose, say, orange or yellow for your home. When you go to sell your home in the future, you will want to be selling a home that the market wants.
Another factor is climate in the area. While you can have a dark colored roof in Oklahoma, lighter colored roofs will save you more on energy costs. These lighter roofs reflect UV rays better than dark roofs, which will keep your home cooler in hot Oklahoma summers.
Ultimately, though, the choice is up to you. While there are guidelines you can follow, you want to love the way your home looks and you want to be pleased with the product you are purchasing. Talk with a roofer in your area to find the right shingles for you.
